Basically, you just need to read all the books I read this month, minus maybe one or two.
And would you believe I only TBR’ed 2 books I didn’t actually read this month? I picked up some extras, bringing up my expected 12 books to a total of 17 books read for July.
Here’s What I Read in July (with my star-rating!)
Sex and Vanity by Kevin KwanMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Kevin Kwan knows how to set a scene, set a mood, and give you a glimpse of a world most of us will never have a first-hand view of. Sex and vanity was lavish and cultural with a side of scandal. The downside was that it was a slow-moving plot, and I found myself asking from time to time, where is this all going?
That being said, I think if I’d known going in that I was along for the experience and the front row seat to this lavish lifestyle, I’d have been able to kick back and enjoy it a little more.
Take it for what it is! A slow, slow burn romance among the lifestyles of the richest and somewhat famous.
Find Me by Anne FrasierMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another book by Anne Frasier that had me hooked from the first page. Looking forward to more in this series. The daughter of a convicted serial killer lives with the guilt of being her father’s bait that lured unsuspecting women to their deaths when she was only five years old. The remains of many of her father’s victims still lie buried somewhere in the desert, but Reni may soon get the closure she’s needed all her life.
For people who enjoy crime thrillers and serial killer fiction.
What Happens in Paradise by Elin HilderbrandMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another great book. I must know what happens next! What does Ayers say when she confronts Mick with what Maia just told her? What are Anna and Louisa going to say/do when they find out Baker took Floyd to the island anyway? Where is Irene going to go now? And for the love of beaches, what really happened with Russ and Rosie???
Twilight by Stephenie MeyerMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
2020 Reread: 4 stars the second time around. There were some inconsistencies I noticed this time around that I didn’t notice the many times I read this over a decade ago, and the dialogue feels a little awkward at times. But overall, the story still keeps me pulled in.
I am seriously obsessed with 28 Summers and have now gone on an Elin Hilderbrand bender. I’ve pretty much loved everything I’ve read so far, and can’t wait to find more, more, more. If you’ve ready any EH that you’ve loved and recommend, PLEASE let me know in the comments!!!
I also was thoroughly impressed with The King Tides (a pot-bellied private investigator who is still a total bad-ass/former Navy SEAL, yeah!), and Slay – what a highly relevant and yet super fun read right now! It may be YA Contemporary, but I devoured it.
As for Chain of Gold, it may have been daunting to get into, but once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. So much awesomeness in that book.
Basically, aside from the couple of 3-star reads this month, I really enjoyed all of these!! If only all months could be as lucky.
