My book box came in a few days ago from Book of the Month, and don’t you know, I had to jump straight into one of them.
The main book I selected for this month was:
Aside from being such a beautiful cover, I thought it sounded like a great story that spoke to my slightly feminist heart.
Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she’s seen her fair share of them, and she’s excellent at dealing with other people’s tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to uproot her life and move to Boston, it’s an emergency of a kind Cassie never anticipated.
The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie’s old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren’t exactly thrilled to have a “lady” on the crew, even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the handsome rookie, who doesn’t seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can’t think about that. Because she doesn’t fall in love. And because of the advice her old captain gave her: don’t date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping…but will she jeopardize her place in a career where she’s worked so hard to be taken seriously?
And then there’s the fact that I’m already reading it, even though it doesn’t release until sometime in mid-July. I seriously love this book box subscription.
Add-Ons:
And then, because add-ons are only $9.99 each with no added tax and no shipping for hardcover, best selling books, I tacked on…
How To Walk Away was by the same author as my first pick, and I figured I’d just get the pair. Thank goodness, because this one is now showing Sold Out on the site. (Sorry!)
And A Gentleman In Moscow keeps showing up on all these lists of super big influencer people’s must-read list.
I can tell you that I’ve already started reading Things You Save In A Fire, and it’s really good. It’s funny, but at the same time it’s serious, and you just know something big is about to happen. It’s definitely starting out to be a good feminist read, if that is your thing, and people on BOTM have listed it as “emotional,” so I’m just getting ready for the feels on this one.
If you’re interested in joining Book of the Month, here’s a link to get your first book free! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
(And I just want to say that this is 100% my true and honest opinion. No one is endorsing me for posting this!)
